Information on Money

Please keep in mind that trip cost varies, depending on the things listed below:

  • Time of year that you are travling
  • The type of ministry you are engaging in
  • How long your planning on staying in Kenya

Items which are not covered in your trip cost are:

  • Any soft drinks or bottled water consumed 
  • Snacks
  • Visa Fee of $50.00
  • $20.00 Tax to Leave Foreign Port
  • Cost of Laundry
  • Souvenirs
  • Tips (Bellhops, Concierges, Safari Driver, Luggage Carriers, ect. )
  • Anything you want to buy in the airports going to or coming from your destination, including meals.

Money Tips:

1. Please try to bring the most current American bills, one trip they would not exchange bills with old faces on them. As a general rule, bills made after 2006 should be exchangable.

2. Also, the larger the bill the better the rate of exchange you will be offered. 100 and 50 dollar bills receive the best rate of exchange.

3. You will need some smaller bills to get through the airports on your journey abroad. If you give a merchant in London a large American bill, he may not have US dollars to make your change.  He then will give your change to you in his own currency. This goes for all countries you might be   traveling through.
